Getting Organized

Getting Organized

I’m counting down to the new year and feeling the urge to organize every aspect of my - especially my digital life {e.g. my Gmail inbox, my work email inbox, my iPhone voicemail box, my iPhone screen with all my apps and favorite links, etc.). Instead of procrastinating, I’ve decided to use my pregnancy insomnia to my advantage by tackling a task a night. I know screen time isn’t exactly the best or most ideal way to settle down and get back to sleep, but since I’m truly wide awake, with my mind racing and running through a constant checklist, I’m going to use this time wisely. However, I encourage you to find the time during these final days of 2016 to tackle a couple digital decluttering tasks to help you kick-off the New Year feeling a little more organized.

As I countdown to 2017, and prep for my own personal 30-day life edit challenge {more on this later}, I’ve given myself a bit of homework to help me prep {low hanging fruit that will instantly make me feel better}. My short to-do-list that I’ve started to tackle before year-end:

{iPhone Organization}

  • Deleting out any unused apps to help clean up some of the real estate on my screen
  • Organize apps by category and create folders to help group similar apps {for example, I have a photography folder where I include all of my photo editing apps and apps I used to order prints}
  • Accepting and updating all apps regularly {that little red box really gets me}
  • Cleaning out my voicemail (and cleaning them all out by deleting the deleted folder too!)

{Email Clean-up}

  • Using a tool like Unroll.Me to manage subscriptions and all my non-personal emails.
  • Leveraging the Gmail sort functionality and sorting emails by Primary, Social and Promotions {this has been a game changer} to help categorize emails making it easier for me to manage and delete eamils by bulk.

{Photo Organization}

  • Clean out old and unnecessary photos from my iPhone and computer
  • Organizing all photos into albums on my iPhone and computer
  • Back-up all photos on a portable hard drive

If you are interested in tackling a 30-day digital life challenge, this is a good one to try.
